- 1. If you wanna make good music you gotta know what good music really is. You gotta listen to beats before you can create beats. And I mean really listen to them. Chill out, smoke a spliff or whatever you gotta do, but sit down and chill and listen to your favorite track. But this time try and forget about the vocals, and just tune in to that beat. Beats be doin' some crazy stuff in the background of tracks, and you ain't never heard it 'cause you always listenin' to the mic. You gotta dig on the drum track by itself before you know what you doin'. Check out how the tracks is panned, what's on the left and what be on the right. Alla that shit. Dig on that hi hat, check out the effects they be usin' on voices and shit. You gotta know how to do alla that if you want to be creating beats, so you got your work cut out for ya, son.
- 2. Cut a CD. Make a CD with some of your best beats and have them soundin' as fresh as they can. You gotta have more than about seven beats on there. Try and get 10 or more. But make sure they fresh.
- 3. Get them joints copyrighted so them Beat Thieves don't jack your hard work. And don't think they won't hit you. They don't give a damn, they just like to steal. So get them joints copyrighted. Check for the newest info on Google because they change it all the time.
- 4. Shoot, I shoulda put this earlier at like number 3 or maybe like number 1, 'cause this one is important. You gotta learn how to play the piano. I know it sound kinda gay, but don't sweat it. You ain't gotta get all Billy Joel on 'em and shit. Just figure out some basic shit. You want to be able to get on there and hit a couple notes and make it sound tight. But get used to fuckin' with a keyboard if you gonna be creating beats.
- 5. Sell them beats! Some fools gonna want you to come offa them for free. Don't let these fools get in your way. Just tell 'em your time worth money, son. Now sometimes it might be a good idea to hand out your beats for free. I mean, if 50 Cent come through and asked you if he could try and rap on one of your beats, you take it no matter what, 'cause that's exposure. And exposure like that will make anyone set. So you gotta play it smart.
